Dear Dirk ,
My two weeks at New Paradigm were far more than attending a program. For me, they marked the beginning of an important new chapter in my life.
I arrived in Chiang Mai carrying baggage accumulated over decades hurt, humiliation, rejection, resentment, anger, fear and a deep need for approval, recognition and validation from the outside world. I had developed powerful coping mechanisms to survive and succeed. They helped me achieve much, but they also came at a considerable emotional cost to me and, sadly, to those closest to me.
I came with one commitment: to surrender completely to the process to stop defending, justifying or proving, and instead understand myself specially at my advanced age.
I am proud of my self that I wholeheartedly embraced a very rigorous somewhat exhausting, but exhilarating process that ensued.
As a consequence what unfolded was extraordinary for me emotionally, physically and spiritually.
Memories, sadness, compassion, empathy and insights that had remained buried for decades began surfacing. Instead of resisting them, I learned to observe, feel and allow them to process.
One of the most profound moments was writing a private letter to myself. Mine became ten pages the story of the three Irfans I now recognise within me: the joyful young child, the wounded but determined teenager, and the older adult who spent much of his life succeeding, controlling and seeking external validation. Watching that letter slowly rise into the night sky with the lantern became a deeply spiritual moment of surrender and release, further strengthening my lifelong connection with the Higher Power whose presence I feel within me.
Dirk, you and New Paradigm did not only magically help activate my subconscious by enabling decades of baggage to surface ,You gave me something even more valuable: the environment, process and space to finally look deeply within myself with your no nonsense tough love.
The real work began when I returned home. I am consciously incorporating what I learned into my daily life through reflection and affirmations, greater awareness of my reactions, reconnecting with the three Irfans, listening rather than controlling, resisting unsolicited advice, allowing others their own journeys, deepening my spiritual connection, and replacing anger and judgement with empathy and compassion.
I also understand that while I have changed, the world around me has not changed with me. Those closest to me have their own wounds and their own timelines. My responsibility is not to convince them that I have changed, but to demonstrate it quietly and consistently through how I live.
Perhaps my biggest shift is from the external to the internal. After spending much of my life seeking love, affection, approval and recognition outside myself, I am learning to find peace, love and acceptance within.
I know this is a journey, not an event. I am not impatient, and I intend to stay the course.
New Paradigm helped me open a door that had remained closed for a very long time. I arrived wanting to understand and change myself. I left having begun to meet myself.
Dirk, and everyone who has been part of this extraordinary experience, you have my deepest gratitude.
I am now the cheer leader for New Paradigm.
We shall keep in touch.
Best regards,
Irfan.
